Tobin has created a cost-effective and accurate method by which to convert pipeline alignment sheets into a seamless GIS database by using a combination of pipeline company maps and data, along with commerically-available vector and imagery data.
A basic centerline pipeline route is developed by utilizing Tobin’s extensive commercial landbase product offerings. Using survey and culture landbase features Tobin establishes tie points along the line either from a generalized pipeline system map, engineering sheet or from facility coordinates. The proposed centerline is then viewed against ortho-rectified aerial photography (if available) or TOBIN’s seamless, digital USGS 7.5’ topo maps, using Tobin’s TiffCut interactive image management software. With verification of the centerline route, a certified pipeline centerline is established
The commercial layers of data are then clipped and copied into the corridor category, thus leaving the original commercial layer intact. Corridor features are enhanced by adjusting the vector data to either the ortho-rectified photo base or the 7.5’ quad base. Additional landbase features from the alignment sheets are captured and placed in the corridor category. Feature attributes are then captured and associated with the graphical element. Both the graphical and feature attributes are stored in Tobin’s Universal Pipeline Data Capture Model.
